Rebuilding a Library and Restoring Hope

In the heart of Ti Rocher, a rural community in St. Lucia, lies a school filled with eager minds and dreams as vibrant as the island’s lush landscape. Yet, in 2022, those dreams faced an unexpected setback. The library at Ti Rocher Combined School, a cherished resource for the students and staff, suffered devastating losses due to a severe termite infestation. The shelves, once brimming with books that fueled imaginations and built knowledge, were left nearly bare.

The principal, Ms. Lubin, shared with KALBAS Charitable Foundation the heartbreaking reality her school was facing. Without books, the children’s education—especially their literacy development—was at risk of stagnation. Her heartfelt appeal struck a chord with us. At KALBAS, we believe education is the foundation for brighter futures, and no child should be deprived of such an essential resource.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, both in monetary donations and contributions of physical books, we were able to step in and help. Through coordinated efforts, KALBAS restocked the library with hundreds of books tailored to the students’ needs—storybooks to spark creativity, textbooks to strengthen academics, and reference materials to expand horizons. 

The impact was immediate and profound. For the students, the newly replenished library was more than just shelves filled with books—it was a doorway to possibilities. Watching their faces light up as they flipped through pages of colorful illustrations and exciting stories reminded us why we do what we do. Teachers and staff expressed deep gratitude, acknowledging how this contribution reignited their mission to provide quality education despite challenges.

Ms. Lubin shared her appreciation with us, saying, “The new library means everything to our school. The students now have the tools they need to learn, explore, and dream again. We are deeply thankful for KALBAS and everyone who contributed to this effort.”
